Archaeological Investigations in the Proposed Lonetree Reservoir, Garrison Diversion Project, North Dakota: 1974 Investigations. Part 1. Survey, Test Excavations, and Recommendations
The 1974 archaeological survey in the proposed Lonetree Reservoir located and recorded 72 sites composed of tipi rings, lithic scatter areas, eagle-trapping pit, and historic sites. Excavations were conducted at three rock cairns, a historic site, and 69 tipi ring sites. Analysis of the tipi ring sites indicates functional and/or seasonal variations between those sites in the bottomlands and those on the Coteau. A summary of the archaeological investigations conducted in the Lonetree Reservoir is provided as well as a discussion as to the possible impact on the archaeological resources in the project area.
