An Evaluation of Eight Methods for Determining Total Serum Bilirubin

This report details the performance of a reference method and a testing evaluation protocol. The experimental laboratory phase of the project was designed to evaluate how well the testing and evaluation protocol identified differences between the performance of various procedures. This report outlines all the experimental work which took place during the performance of this contract with respect to the development of the reference method and the performance of this reference method and of seven different commercial methods which were studied. The results of the experimental evaluation of each of these methods are given along with conclusions concerning the effectiveness of this protocol to evaluate bilirubin class products and to make comparisons between the products. Recommendations for future work and alterations in the experimental protocol are given.
