Adsorption of Ammonia: Adsorption of Ammonia on Clothing and Building Materials

Toxic products such as ammonia are transported by rail, ship, or truck. In case of an accident during transportation, the poison might be liberated and spread as a gas cloud. This cloud will penetrate into buildings during its passage and the inhabitants will be exposed to a certain possibly dangerous concentration level of gas. The outdoor gas concentration depends on the amount of liberated gas and the meteorological conditions. The indoor concentration depends also on the ventilation of the building and the losses due to adsorption on materials. The adsorption often reduces the indoor concentration. The subject of this study is the relation between the outdoor and indoor concentration, taking into account the adsorption.
