Heat Transfer in Furnaces for CIB Cooperative Program and Heat Balance Analysis of Wall Furnace.

Tests were conducted in the NBS wall panel furnace as part of a CIB international cooperative program to measure and compare heat transfer in fire endurance furnaces. Additionally, a heat balance analysis showed that a cellular concrete block wall specimen absorbed more heat by convection than by radiation. The rate of radiant heat transfer was found to decrease slowly,while the furnace exhaust heat loss increased during the test from 42to 58percent of the heat output. The calculated radiant heat flux incident at furnace walls was found to be somewhat lower than the experimental value measured at the test wall.
