Strength and Ductility Evaluation of Existing Low-Rise Reinforced Concrete Buildings--Screening Method,

This report describes a methodology for evaluating the seismic safety of low-rise reinforced concrete buildings and its application to existing school buildings. The method classifies buildings according to three types of failure mechanism. In the criteria for evaluating buildings,nonlinear response to two levels of earthquake ground motion is considered. The overall method consists of a sequence of procedures which are repeated in successive cycles,using more refined idealizations of behavior in each cycle. The first cycle of this procedure is called the first screening and is the cycle described in this report.
