The handbook is a combination textbook and manual,containing:Instructions for signing on the computer at a time sharing terminal;directions for obtaining the COBOL program in punched cards;illustrations of each HEWCAS (HEW Computer Audit System) option,including a record layout,forms for completion by the user,the questions and answers for a terminal session;the COBOL program composed by HEWCAS;the execution and final output of the COBOL program,with the output explained. Also contained are explanations of Hollerith Code,Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code,Binary Coded Decimal, Hexadecimal, Octal,addition and subtraction in Hexadecimal and Octal,and definitions of file-names and data-names used in the COBOL programs produced by HEWCAS. Examples of some changes which can be made to the HEWCAS produced COBOL programs by the auditor and their purposes are also shown. Portions of this document are not fully legible.
