A shipboard data acquisition system has been designed for the analysis of marine ecosystems. The system provides continuous analyses of surface seawater and may operate with the ship underway or holding station. The data are processed by a shipboard computer and are displayed graphically or presented as digital printout. The system provides data acquisition and analysis rapid enough to enable the adaptation of the sampling design of the cruise to the changing nature of the ecosystem.
