摘要

The requirements for plate to be fabricated into node joints are particularly onerous. The main one is insusceptibility to lamellar tearing. This is assessed on a quality control basis by short Transverse (through-thickness) tensile testing,the criterion being a minimum ductility as measured by reduction of cross-section area. The development of steel plate to meet these requirements has involved detailed metallographic investigation of non-metallic inclusions present with the object of determining the mechanism whereby they impair ductility. By identifying the sources of inclusions further improvements have been made to deoxidation and casting practices. High quality plate with short transverse ductility guarantees and with resistance to lamellar tearing is now available.
