A Double X-Y Platform for Randsight-Type Instruments,

Partially sighted persons taking part in experiments designed to find an effective and comfortable way to read and take notes or copy material under study found a closed circuit TV system using a double X-Y platform and one camera preferable to other systems in eliminating excessive manipulation of materials and user frustration and anxiety. The system involved a 14.5by 14inch reading platform and a 9.5by 14inch writing platform which were coupled for left to right (X) motion,but independent for backwards and forwards (Y) motion,enabling the user to shift from reading to writing without having to conduct a time-consuming search to determine where to begin reading or writing again,because the last line appears on the screen in exactly the same position as it did before. Split-image systems were also found effective,but were not preferred because of high complexity and cost.
