摘要

The report is concerned with a project done on the developments in Doppler radar meteorology. The principal objectives of the project was to modify the B-units of the FPS-18A Radar Transmitter and achieve various operational characteristics in an ordered priority. The order of achievement for the project,which is included in this report,was outlined to be as follows: (1) Investigate the deionization time of the 500Ampere Hydrogen Thyratron Switch Tube--Determine if its deionization time is less than 250microsec and if it can withstand a full load for 6.6microsec to yield the maximum transmitter output; (2) Investigate,using low level excitation methods,response characteristics of the Charging Inductor,Pulse-Forming network,Hydrogen Thyratron,and Pulse-Transformer assembly; (3) Investigate the Trigger Amplifier and Final Stage Modulator for necessary modifications that may be required to meet the new operational specifications; (4) The short-pulse capability to be developed first; (5) Develop a diode holding circuit to permit variable pulse repetition rate operation;and (6) Develop a long pulse (6.6microsec) capability.
