Steels of a vacuum degassed cast were alloyed to give niobium contents of 0.07, 0.12, 0.23and 0.27wt%. Hot rolled material was cold reduced and the annealing behavior was investigated. Results showed that to increase the niobium content was to increase the recrystallization temperature. Niobium steels recrystallized at higher temperatures than vacuum degassed titanium steels and aluminum killed steels. Steels with deep drawing properties superior to those of conventional CR1aluminum stabilized steels and comparable with those of vacuum degassed titanium bearing steels may be obtained by niobium additions. The best combination of annealed properties was obtained in a steel containing 0.12% Nb.
