Procedure for Estimating the Reliability of a Weighted Linear Composite Test: The Reliability of Test 500, Series 140

In order to properly document and evaluate a test, its reliability must be investigated. According to the Standards for Educational and Psychological Tests (American Psychological Association, 1974), data on the reliability of a test is essential. This Technical Memorandum provides test users and psychologists with comprehensive information on assessing the reliability of weighted composites in general and of the Professional and Administrative Career Examination (PACE) in particular. PACE is used to fill entry level positions in the Federal Civil Service. Test 500 of PACE is a written test of five abilities required by a number of Federal occupations. These abilities are differentially weighted for six different patterns of occupations. A linear combination of the weighted ability scores is used to determine an applicant's examination rating for each pattern.
