The report discusses the pre-battle days of the march to Yorktown, the preparations for the siege, the Scammel Affair, and the construction of the earthworks. The section on the actual battle relates the effects of the bombardment on the town, its residents, and the soldiers of both factions through accounts of eyewitnesses and participants of the battle.
