Certification Requirements and Methods for Industrial Hygienist and for Industrial Hygienist in Training and for Safety Professional and for Safety in Training

Certification requirements are outlined for working and in training industrial hygienists and safety professionals. Regulations of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) and of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) are included along with jobs and activities performed by industrial hygienists or safety professional trainees, professionals, and administrators. Proposed revisions of the certification programs are also discussed, including the development of a course series that would be equated with certification, development of a training curriculum that would enable the graduate to apply immediately for examination, publication of performance objectives to serve as certification guidelines, development of a joint occupational safety and health generalist or specialist field by ABIH and BCSP, and development of a certification for industrial hygiene management.
