A sophisticated 'transudction' (transformation and reduction) procedure is presented which attempts to reduce given, nonoptimal,multiple-output,multiple-level,loop-free,NOR-gate networks to near-optimal networks of fewer gates. The procedure,based on 'error-compensation',basically consists of removing gates one at a time from the network and,after each removal,trying to reconfigure the network,without employing additional gates,to compensate for any resultant errors caused in the network output(s). Error-compensation is based on the concept of Compatible Sets of Permissible Functions with Errors (CSPFE's) which is an extension of the concept of Compatible Sets of Permissible Functions (CSPF's) introduced in an earlier report. NOR network transduction procedures based on error-compensation were implemented in the computer programs NETTRA-E1, NETTRA-E2,and NETTRA-E3,whose principles are described in the report.
