摘要

The effect of addition of chondroitin 6-sulfate on the quaternary structure of the collagen fibrils precipitated from the dispersed state was studied. Transmission electron microscopy of collagen fibrils precipitated by a variety of procedures clearly shows that,when certain conditions of addition,such as pH and chondroitin 6-sulfate/collagen ratio,are controlled,chondroitin 6-sulfate inhibits collagen crystallization and initiates instead formation of an amorphous collagen solid state,apparently native in all respects but lacking in any clearly discernible quaternary structure. Concurrent studies of platelet aggregation and platelet serotonin release show that the collagen-platelet reaction is abolished when collagen quaternary structure development has been effectively suppressed (as shown by electron microscopy) by use of appropriate amounts of chondroitin 6-sulfate.
