The Italian ART was established at the National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanita) after the promulgation of law 40/2004 which regulates all ART procedures. This report shows the results of the activity carried out by all ART Italian centers in 2006. During this year 18,431 patients received 29,901 IntraUterine Insemination (IUI) cycles resulting in 3,203 pregnancies. The pregnancy rate per cycle was 10.7%. Moreover, the reported deliveries were 1,764 resulting in 1,999 baby alive. Regarding ART activity, 36,912 fresh cycles were carried out. During the period 30,274 patients received treatment using fresh oocytes resulting in 6,962 pregnancies, with 18.8% pregnancy rate per initiated cycles. With regard to freezing/thawing procedures, 3,882 oocytes and embryos cycles were performed resulting in 443 pregnancies. The reported ART deliveries were 4,384 resulting in 5,508 baby alive.
