Walk Through Survey Report of Wall Colmonoy Corporation, 19345 John R. Street, Detroit, Michigan

Worker exposures to silver (7440224), copper (7440508), zinc (7440666), iron (7439896), cadmium (7440439), carbon-monoxide (630080), and nitrogen-dioxide (10102440) produced during brazing operations were determined at the Wall Colmonoy Corporation (SIC-7692), in Detroit, Michigan, on May 3, 1977. Data obtained from this study was to be used in the development of a NIOSH Criteria Document regarding hazards in the welding and brazing industry. The company employed 20 workers in the job shop manufacturing operations. Air samples for silver ranged from about 0.0006 to 0.0007 milligrams per cubic meters (mg/cu m); copper concentrations ranged from 0.008 to 0.010mg/cu m; zinc ranged from 0.004 to 0.005mg/cu m; iron ranged from 0.013 to 0.014mg/cu m; and cadmium ranged from 0.008 to 0.010mg/cu m. Carbon-monoxide and nitrogen-dioxide were undetectable. The author concludes that peak exposures to increased concentrations may exist under different working conditions, and recommends the design and implementation of a safety and health program for employees.
