Arteriosclerosis: The Report of the 1977 Working Group to Review the 1971 Report by the National Heart and Lung Institute Task Force on Arteriosclerosis

This is the report of a Working Group convened in 1977 by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to evaluate the extent to which recommendations of the 1970-71 Task Force on Arteriosclerosis have been implemented. In 1970, the Task Force was created by the director of the Institute to determine why the complications of atherosclerosis--heart attack, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease--persisted as the foremost medical problem in the United States and to attempt to define a program that would cope with this problem. The report consisted of two volumes: The first dealt with the general aspects of the problem and major conclusions and recommendations of the Task Force, written in a style for the lay community (a copy of which is included as Appendix C); the second volume contained detailed technical information for use by physicians and scientists.
