Research and Demonstration of Improved Surface Mining Techniques in Eastern Kentucky. Revegetation.

摘要

This is a report of the Revegetation Research Task undertaken to identify chemical and physical factors that prevent or retard the establishment of vegetation on surface mine spoils,and to find new methods,or adapt existing ones,that will prevent,and overcome these factors. The task consisted of five steps: (1) Identify and classify the coal seams in eastern Kentucky that produce extremely acid spoils; (2) conduct studies to identify causes of vegetative failure; (3) suggest modifications that would overcome the problems identified in Step 2; (4) use field plots to test the suggested modifications;and (5) prepare a revegetation manual.
