Corrugated plates function as shear webs in a wide variety of structures. It is therefore important to be able to estimate the elastic buckling strength of corrugated plates in 'in-plane'shear. The usual approach to this problem is to idealize the corrugated plate as an orthotropic flat plate and apply the conventional techniques of flat-plate buckling analysis. In the present paper a somewhat more refined approach is used,in which the corrugated plate is regarded as a shell and its buckling load determined by the method of stationary total potential energy. On the basis of this approach,numerical buckling load data are obtained for simply supported curvilinearly corrugated plates covering a wide range of geometries. The results are compared with the predictions of orthotropic plate theory,and it is seen that the latter generally underestimates the buckling strength by a significant amount.
