This workshop summarizes the current state-of-the-art of wind loading on building structures,including the results from recent research investigations. Deficiencies in current code guidelines were identified and they provided a basis for discussions of what principles should be investigated in the future in order to develop a better understanding of the effects of wind on structures. Papers presented by participants as well as transcripts of tape recordings made during the workshop are included in the proceedings. Some topics included are: (1) trends toward national wind load provisions; (2) treatment of wind loads in the national building code of Canada; (3) extreme wind analysis methods and data availability; (4) wind microzonation; (5) model building codes; (6) wind loads on cladding/codes and research; (7) bracketing of probable atmospheric wind conditions; (8) metal buildings;and (9) background and development of ANSI A58.1-1972for wind loads.
