High Gradient Magnetic Separation of Food Processing Wastewater.

摘要

The amenability of food processing wastewater to treatment by High Gradient Magnetic Separation was studied. Initially,soluble organic removal by a combined use of activated carbon adsorption and HGMS was investigated. The studies with known concentrations of soluble starch revealed that although adsorption of the starch could be accomplished,the removal of the activated carbon in the magnetic separator was inefficient. At concentration levels of 3,000mg/l and 6,000mg/l,only approximately 70percent of the activated carbon could be removed from the water slurry by HGMS. Actual composite wastewater samples collected from a food processing unit were treated by magnetic separation. Certain parameters such as color plus turbidity,chemical oxygen demand,total phosphorus,and solids were monitored to determine the effectiveness of the treatment. In most cases reductions in these parameters after magnetic treatment were noted.
