摘要

The abrasion resistance is studied of safety spectacle and goggle lenses made from acetate,CR-39, (diallyl diglycol carbonate),polycarbonate,toughened glass,vinyl and vinyl treated with an anti-fog coating. In addition,the optical properties of prismatic power,refractive power and definition of some of the materials are studied. Goggle lenses are abraded on a Polaroid Type B Abrader. The toughened glass spectacle and goggle lenses are found to be superior to all other materials in all areas of testing. It is found that the polycarbonate spectacle lenses are coated,which increases their ability to resist abrasion. It is emphasized that there does not exist today one material that is perfectly suited to perform well in all areas of eye and face protection. Therefore,the need for judicious choices in the use of plastics in eye and face protective devices is stressed.
