The purpose of the study was to provide the Office of Pipeline Safety Operations with an appraisal of the seriousness of certain types of environmentally induced cracking problems in natural gas and liquid petroleum pipelines. Measures for locating and identifying such cracks or for identifying conditions leading to their occurrence are identified. Predictions of future incidence probability are formulated and recommendations made for needed research and action.
