Photoelasticity was used as the main method for determining the sheer stress distribution in the adhesive specimen. The experimental stress was compared to the average stress at the midpoint of the test specimen. A parameter study was also conducted to determine what variables affect the results. Findings indicate that the experimental shear stress distribution compares closely with the average shear stress. The width had a strong effect, the wider glue line yielding a more uniform distribution of stress. These findings are important considering that the construction industry is making greater use of structural adhesives in mobile homes and must determine their strength - related material properties.
