摘要

A total of eight aboriginal (archeological) and four historical sites that might be adversely affected by the proposed Bureau of Reclamation's Salmon Falls Division irrigation project were investigated and evaluated. The former required extensive test excavations, the latter surface study only. The project is located in south central Idaho between the South Hills and the Snake River Canyon. Based on projectile point typology alone, site 10-TF-312 and another nearby 10-TF-219, both on Rock Creek, probably date from the Early Archaic (5,800-2,500 B.C.), while most of the remaining sites were probably utilized during the Middle Archaic (2,500 B.C.-A.D. 1200-1300), and one, 10-TF-262, definitely during the Late Archaic or Early Historic period (A.D. 1300-1840). A site on Dry Creek, 10-TF-212, may have been utilized in both the Early and Middle Archaic periods; it was also the only site in which an earth oven or hearth was found.
