Hydrogeology and Computer Model of the Bass Lake Area, St. Croix County, Wisconsin

Bass Lake is one of several lakes in northern Wisconsin where high water levels in the early 1970's caused flooding of roads and homes. Because Bass Lake is a ground-water dominant lake with no inlet or outlet, it was speculated that high water levels were caused by increased ground-water discharge to the lake brought about by an impoundment, Mounds Pond, on the Willow River. In order to determine the probable cause of the high lake levels, an investigation into the hydrogeology of the area was initiated in the field and utilizing the Trescott-Pinder-Larson (1976) computer model to simulate the effects on the lake elevation of changing various parameters.
