Exploratory Analysis of the Differences in American Community Survey Respondent Characteristics Between the Mandatory and Voluntary Response Methods

This analysis examines how the distribution of respondent characteristics differs between the two methods and whether any difference is reflected in the final estimates. An exploratory analysis using logit modeling was performed to determine which person and housing unit characteristics had the most important distributional differences between respondents from the two methods. Then differences between final estimates from the mandatory and voluntary methods related to each of these respondent characteristics were examined to see if they were statistically significant.
