A Study of Health Manpower Needs Methodologies, Recommendations

The Health Professions Educational Assistance Act of 1976 (PL 94-484) directs the Secretary to evaluate and project the supply and requirements for health professions. There are currently a large number and variety of methods being used by different organizational units within PHS and by other health planning organizations to estimate and forecast health manpower requirements. The purpose of this project is to compile, review, compare, summarize and evaluate selected health manpower needs analyses, studies and activities developed by the Federal government and a small group of non-Federal agencies. The findings of the study will provide a basis for a work group report and recommendation for the Health Manpower Coordinating Committee on the use of methodologies by PHS and other selected agencies to estimate and forecast health manpower needs.
