There are several reasons for the special concern that researchers have with the engineering and technical occupations:the relatively large size and,until recently,rapid growth of the engineering profession,the new growth in formal technical training,the exceptional swings in the engineering labor market,due in large part to the policies of the federal government;the role of the federal government in subsidizing engineering training and in affecting,directly or indirectly,the demand for engineers and technicians,and the role of engineers and technicians in effecting technical change,an important part of economic growth. This paper reports on an investigation of one aspect of the engineers and technicians (E & T's) labor market, interoccupational mobility. (Portions of this document are not fully legible)
