Meeting the Health Needs of American Indians and Migrant Farm Workers in Michigan

The purpose of this paper is to report the proceedings of the Inter-Agency Advisory Committee on Meeting the Health Needs of Migrants and American Indians. The Committee members met, several times during the months, soon after the organizational meeting. After each meeting it became increasingly evident that working subcommittees, organized along 'Migrant interests' and 'Indian interests', were necessary in order for the members to thoroughly study their respective subjects. While the ideal way to report each of the subcommittee proceedings would be to discuss the intended implementation for each Recommendation, this option is precluded due to the autonomy of the various health care providers of migrant services and similarly the autonomy of the organizations serving the Indian causes. This paper reports the result of the proceedings of each of the subcommittees and is organized in two parts. The first, reports the work of the Indian subcommittee; the second, the conclusions of the the migrant subcommittee.
