Studies of Thermal Electric Power Plant Heated Discharges. Phase III. Development and Testing of Three-Dimensional Plume Models and Investigation of Thermal Fronts

This report covers the 1977-78 research program to predict the three-dimensional distribution of water temperature of a thermal plume by using discharge data gathered from an infrared overflight. This is one technique to obtain information necessary to meet state monitoring requirements and can be useful in evaluating the environmental effects of power plants. The thermal front phenomenon observed during field surveys in June 1978 at the Ginna Generating Station on Lake Ontario is described in the report.
