摘要

A walk through survey was made at the Jensen Marine Division (SIC-3732) located in Costa Mesa, California, for the purpose of determining the extent of worker exposure to styrene (100425) in the production of reinforced plastic boats. At this site a polyester styrene resin which was about 45% styrene was metered from tanks and used in the laminating of parts for three different boat lines. The parts to be laminated generally fell into three categories: hull lamination, deck lamination and small parts lamination. At the time of the survey 350 workers were employed at the site. The highest styrene concentrations were found at the number 1 gel coat booth, 31.7 parts per million (ppm), and in the deck chopping area, 26.7ppm. There were spraying operations in both areas. Acetone (67641) levels were very low in all samples, with the highest concentration being 3.3ppm. The exposure levels found at this site were within applicable OSHA standards. The authors recommend that this facility not be included in the in depth industrial hygiene study of workers exposed to styrene.
