Basic Data on Arthritis, Knee, Hip, and Sacroiliac Joints in Adults Ages 25-74 Years, United States, 1971-1975

The report summarizes the arthritis findings from the first Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of the civilian noninstitutionalized 25-74-year-old population of the United States. The age, sex, and race distribution of the civilian noninstitutionalized U.S. population at the midpoint of the survey and distribution of the probability sample drawn from it are presented in appendix I. An illustration of the use of the standard error estimates and a formula for approximating standard errors for estimates shown in other tables of the report are also presented in appendix I. The definitions of demographic terms in the report are found in appendix II. A summary of the contents of the microdata tape used in preparation of the report is found in appendix III.
