Variation in Early Growth of Western White Pine in North Idaho

In several nursery and field tests most of the useable variation among western white pine seedlings or saplings was related to differences among the parent trees within stands. When differences among geographic areas, elevational zones, or stands within those categories were significant usually no pattern to the variation was apparent. However, seedling from high elevation parents were often shorter than those from lower elevations.
