Correlation of Mathematical Models for Water Temperature with Aerial Infrared Water Temperature Surveys and Investigation of Thermal Fronts

Thermal plumes are created when power plants discharge heated water. Two mathematical models were developed in earlier phases of this project to predict the behavior and activity of these plumes. The first model employs surface temperature data from infrared pictures of a thermal plume. Based on this data the model can be used to determine the three-dimensional configuration of a thermal plume. Predicted configurations were found to be extremely accurate when compared to actual field data.
