An Illumination System for a Shortwall Mining Section

A program was initiated to develop, demonstrate, and evaluate a lighting system concept for a working shortwall coal mine section based on the application of lighting system components used in conventional, continuous, and long-wall mining sections. This was achieved by employing an aboveground simulated working place to test and evaluate lighting systems prior to installation underground. The simulator tests were subsequently verified through actual underground tests.
