Technical Issues Related to the Use of LORAN-C in Terrestrial Applications

The extension of LORAN-C operations from Marine Services to terrestrial vehicle tracking applications in urban centers is discussed. Two successful experimental vehicle tracking systems, one in Philadelphia, PA and the other in Washington, DC are described. LORAN-C receiver parameters which must be upgraded for terrestrial use are identified and minimum receiver performance characteristics then suggested for land-based vehicle tracking.
