High and Medium Voltage Trailing Cable Splices and Connections. Volume II -Trailing Cable Couplers.

The report describes a study of the factors that affect medium voltage (661to 1,000volts) and high voltage (1,001to 7,500volts) trailing cable couplers for use in underground coal mines to connect trailing cables. Improvements in quality,dependability,and safety of medium and high voltage couplers are presented in the form of requirements for couplers. The results of an investigation of high voltage trailing cable coupler design and of whether trailing cable couplers must have a metallic shell as required by CFR 30part 75.805are presented. Conclusions and recommended research programs are included that describe the present situation and future development approaches.
