Allocation of Resources to U.S. Attorneys' Offices: A Case-Weighting Approach

The primary goal of this project was to develop and evaluate a set of weights that, when applied to anticipated caseloads, would provide accurate estimates of the resources required to process that caseload. The weights were developed from data reported by Assistant U.S. Attorneys in a sample of eleven offices during a three-month period of observation, and from historical records. The derived weights were applied to the non-sampled offices so that specific case-weights were developed for all federal districts. Weights are displayed for all districts for both criminal and civil case types.
