Pest Management Strategies. Volume II: Working Papers

摘要

In order to assess the present status and anticipated 15-year future of crop protection in the United States, the Office of Technology Assessment commissioned an assessment of crop protection in the United States. Work groups were established to examine in detail crop protection strategies for each of seven regional cropping systems: wheat in the Great Plains, corn in the Corn Belt, soybean in the Southeast, apple in the North, potato in the Northeast, vegetables in California, and cotton and sorghum in Texas. Each group was asked to address the following subjects: (1) general nature of the cropping system in their region, (2) major pests of the crop, (3) present control strategies and tactics, (4) present and predicted problems with current practices, (5) predictable changes in pest control over the next 15 years, (6) predicted impacts of available approaches to pest control, (7) obstacles to implementation of pest management strategies and tactics, and (8) requirements for a viable, privately operated pest management delivery system. This study contains the reports of these working papers.
