Water Resources and Industrial Development in Mississippi: Opportunities and Constraints

The recent increase in industrialization and urbanization in the State of Mississippi has begun to tax water supplies in some areas of the state. This study accumulated data on industrial water demands in Mississippi through a questionnaire survey of 585 manufacturing firms in the State. Firms were questioned about water use and discharge characteristics and recent conflicts (if any) over the use of water. Also, procedures were developed to estimate future industrial water requirements through the use of a multiple regression model. Findings are presented in tabular form to facilitate comprehensibility.
