Noise Reduction of Jumbo Mounted Percussive Drills:Phase II,Development of Noise Treatment.

Diagnostic studies were performed on a Gardner-Denver DH123drill to determine the contributions of major sources to the total radiated noise spectrum. In addition,noise control treatment was designed,developed and evaluated. The treatment involves an integral enclosure muffler for the drifter,vibration isolation of the drifter from the enclosure and feed,and a sheath mounted to the drill steel by elastomeric bushings. Performance tests show that there is no impact of treatment on drill rate. Problems with exhaust icing and lack of adherence of the elastomeric bushings to the drill steel remain to be solved.
