Capsule Report: First Progress Report. Physical Coal-Cleaning Demonstration at Homer City, Pennsylvania.

The theory, current testing program at Homer City, PA, and other applications of the physical coal cleaning process are examined in the report. The cleaning process allows the use of raw coals with a pyritic to organic sulfur content of 2:1 to 4:1, by removing enough pyrite sulfur to permit the cleaned coal to be burned while still meeting sulfur dioxide standards. Advantages of the process are also discussed.
