Stress factors are reviewed in relationship to the area of secretarial and clerical work. Fatigue is discussed as a response to stress, and the general fatigue which affects some workers as the culmination of several smaller incidents of fatigue. The presence of several stress factors was sought in the job situation including: visual problems, postural and anthropometric concerns, environmental trouble spots, difficulties encountered in task organization, and higher order stress factors. Cathode ray tube (CRT) operators and keyboard operators in general complain frequently of visual and muscular disorders resulting from factors peculiar to their work tools. Sometimes design defects or poor posture habits are at fault in creating the stressful situation. Solutions to these problems are presented as being either low technology or high technology. The work is concluded with an annotated bibliography.
