As part of the complementary contracts placed by the Department of the Environment with the Freshwater Biological Association (Teesdale Unit) and the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology to investigate effects of flow regulation on sediments of upland rivers and their faunas, it was agreed that a comprehensive review of the subject be written. The report is a shorter version, concentrating more specifically on the effects of flow regulation on sediments and the ecology of rivers in the U. K.
