Response of the Singer NM-37/57 Field Strength Meter to Low Repetitionate Impulse Noise

The response of four Singer NM-37/57 field strength meters to low repetition rate impulse noise was investigated. It was found that as the attenuator setting was varied for a fixed input level and bandwidth/detector combination, the measured voltages could differ by up to 43 dB and result in errors of up to 37 dB. Some practical guidelines for avoiding non-linear operation caused by overloading of these field strength meters are presented.
