摘要

This is a preliminary study of the feasibility of mining offshore sand from the Penguin Bank, Hawaii area. The study stated it was technically feasible to mine sand from the 180-200 ft. depths using a European-designed trailing-suction-hopper dredge. Some factors, including the present high price of calcareous sand favor the economics while others are strong deterrents. The study concluded that a reasonable profit margin might be obtained, but further analysis is needed.
