Supplementing Theory with Practice: A Review of Methods Relevant to the Training of Health Administrators

One of the major problems facing health administration education is that of providing both theory and practical experience to students. Traditionally, health administration programs have provided practical experience primarily by means of a one academic year administrative residency. However, in the last decade a wide variety of alternatives to the residency have come to be used. This report describes the various approaches in use and makes recommendations as to their use by the School of Health Administration at the University of New South Wales.
